World Record falls at Interclub 6

Western Athletics Club thrower Hugo Taheny recorded an F21 World Record in Athletics SA's Shot Put competition at Saturday's Copyworld Toshiba Interclub 6. 

Taheny threw an 11.20m Shot Put attempt to smash the World Record, which was previously recorded at 10.71m.

The throw was also a 0.59m PB for Taheny.

He broke the F21 Discus World Record late last year, recording 31.33m during the Northern Games athletics meet in Salisbury on November 6.

Hugo Taheny is now the F21 Shot Put World Record Holder after throwing 11.20m at Copyworld Toshiba Interclub 6. 

Taylor Larsson of the Northern Districts Athletics Club also managed to break a State Record during Interclub 6, this being the U16 Women's Shot Put Record.

Larsson threw 14.66m on Saturday to take the Record away from multi-State Record holder Tea Tree Gully's Marley Raikiwasa, who set the U16 distance at 14.45m during the 2021 Australian Track and Field Championships. 

Larsson comfortably won the U18 Shot Put competition on Saturday ahead of Pembroke's Sophie Killick (10.97m) and Jets teammate Aaliyah Loffler (9.40m)

Several State Records have fallen this season, many of which coming in the throwing disciplines.

More good news from the Shot Put circle - Taylor Larsson threw an U16 Women's State Record 14.66m. 

There is no Athletics SA competition scheduled this weekend.

Women's Competition

An exciting duel took place at the High Jump mat on Saturday as teenagers, Tea Tree Gully's Tryphena Hewett and Northern Districts' Chelsea Friedrich, shared the points by each clearing 1.73m.

While eligible for U18 competition, both athletes jumped National Qualifying heights for the Open Women's High Jump. 

Chelsea Friedrich of the Northern Districts Athletics Club jumped 1.73m at Copyworld Toshiba Interclub 6. Friedrich and Tea Tree Gully's Tryphena Hewett tied for first place at the competition.

It was a good day for the Northern Jets as 18-year-old Emma Cotgrove also threw a National Qualifier in the Open Women's Javelin competition, managing 43.47m.

Killick again came runner up in this competition with a throw of 35.44m, while Northern's Alanah Gregory won the U18 Javelin competition with 46.34m. 

Pembroke's Kayla Lemm won Heat 1 of the Women's 200m race, running 25.22 to edge out Western's Tayla Philis (25.28) and Melarn Murphy (25.84) of Saints.

Lemm was runner up in the 60m event as Pembroke teammate Lakara Stallan recorded 7.66.

Saints Athletics Club's Brooke Hines comfortably won the Women's 3000m event in a time of 10:00.20, running alongside Men's 3000m winner Mohammad Heidari (Saints), who ended up crossing the line in 9:58.08.   

Saints Athletics Club's Brooke Hines, bib 24, won the Women's 3000m race on Saturday. Mohammad Heidari, 394, won the Men's 3000m event. 

It was Saints who also took out the Women's 800m race as Malaika McLeod ran 2:13.37 to run away from Western's Victoria Cholsh (2:15.36) and Flinders' Asha Lawson (2:20.52).

Often strong in the Women's Walks, Southern Athletic Club took the double win as Matilda Gourlay claimed the 1500m Walk in 7:57.01 and Nellie Langford the 5000m Walk in 26:38.29.

Athletics SA Emerging Athlete Program (ASA EAP) jumper Emilaya Ellis (Saints) managed 12.34m to win the Open Women's Triple Jump.  

SA Masters athlete Ann Jefferies won both the O35 Women's Shot Put (10.03m) and Javelin (27.99m) competitions, as did Lillee Wakefield in the Women's Para Shot Put (8.36m) and Javelin (19.59m).

Men's Competition

Men's Open 800m State Record holder Dylan Stenson made his first 800m appearance of the 2021-22 season and crossed the line first, running 1:48.98.

Pembroke's Jack Atherton (1:51.08) followed the Saints athlete over the line to finish second, while Pembroke teammate Toby Cook finished third in 1:52.73.

Fresh from a podium finish in the 2021 Bay Sheffield, Western athlete Harrison Hunt managed to take out both the 60m and 200m races on Saturday. 

Hunt ran 6.87 in the 60m to edge out Saints teammates Tomas Semmler (6.90) and Jayden Chambers (6.97), and followed it up with a 21.17 run in the 200m. 

Cailen Hejka of Flinders finished second with 21.74 and Hayden Crowe (Saints) third with 21.75.

Fourteen-year-old Southern athlete Zayden Kamish took out both the U16 Shot Put and Javelin events, throwing 12.81m in the Shot Put and a National Qualifier 48.94m Javelin. 

Zayden Kamish of the Southern Sharks won both the U16 Javelin and Shot Put events on Saturday. 

Ayden Colbourne, Sandro Purugganan and Nicholas Pavia all ran a National Qualifier in the U16 200m Hurdles on Saturday, with Jets athlete Colbourne winning the race in 27.44.

It looks to be a strong discipline for SA as Georgie Fielder won the U16 Women's 200m Hurdles in a National Qualifying time of 32.18 on Saturday. 

ASA EAP member Darcy Miller and William Evans both managed National Qualifying distances in the U20 Shot Put event.

Miller (Saints) won the competition with 14.90m, while Evans of Westerns threw 12.41m.
