Athletics SA Event Cancellation – Season Finale/Open Day #5 scheduled for Friday 20 March
We are in unprecedented times as we respond to the public health risk brought about by COVID-19. All athletics participants must play a role if we are to help slow the spread of COVID-19, including people organising, attending or supporting attendance at athletics events and activities.
We are monitoring the advice of Federal and State Health Departments and are in contact with Athletics Australia and other State athletics bodies to form a position on our future state, club and community athletics activity to help guide you. While our Summer Season is largely over we are on the cusp of the Winter Season and a range of smaller events such as presentation nights. It is encouraging to see some clubs taking action over these already.
While it is a disappointing way to finish the summer track and field season the Board of Athletics SA feels it is in the best interests of our community overall to cancel our final event, the Season Finale/Open Day #5 this Friday 20 March, 2020.
We must put the health and safety of our athletes, officials, staff, volunteers and spectators at the forefront of all decision making. We encourage all those in our community to continue practicing social distancing and be diligent about hygiene such as:
- Cover mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze;
- Wash hands with soap and water often;
- Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available;
- Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell;
- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean;
We will provide further updates on a regular basis to help our Clubs and community navigate this pandemic and resultant implications.
