You can do it anywhere, anytime. No gym equipment needed. Simply lace up your shoes and head straight out the door!
That’s how easy it is to enjoy all the benefits of running and there’s no better time than now to start running.
For many, finding the motivation can be tough at the best of times and even harder when we can’t do it with friends and training partners due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.
You don’t have to do it alone - using the Running SA virtual running club on the STRAVA app you stay connected with others.
As well as tracking your own fitness, STRAVA allows you to to see what other runners are up to.
“You can see what routes they are doing and get ideas and inspiration from the activities of others” said Ben Kilpatrick from Northern District Athletics Club.
Choosing an enjoyable route will set you up to succeed on your running fitness journey.
Athletics SA CEO, Shane Fuller, has a favourite running route along the coastal esplanade near Brighton, whilst being grateful for other amazing places to run locally.
“We are very lucky in the city with North Adelaide. There’s the uni loop, of course, which is a popular track. And We’ve got Belair National Park down in the South” Fuller said.
Fuller expressed the benefits of running are more than just for physical fitness. “It’s for your mental health as well, so I’d encourage anybody and everybody to get outside - have a run, have a walk, be active!” he said.
The mental health benefits are also just as important to our elite athletes on their journey to Tokyo Olympics selection.
“Heading out the door for a run lets me let go of everything that’s going on and really just enjoy the moment” Izzi Batt-Doyle told Athletics SA
“I miss running with the group... running alone is different” Batt-Doyle said, who is adjusting from her normal routine of large group training runs through the week.
The Running SA STRAVA Club is allowing her to stay connected with other runners and keep track of her training over the coming months.
We are encouraging you, no matter your fitness level to join the Running SA STRAVA Club and get out the door for a run or walk. Your mind and body will thank you for it!
