Copyworld Toshiba Interclub 5: Results, Photos and Reports

Athletics SA hosted the final Copyworld Toshiba Interclub (Round 5) competition of the calendar year on Saturday.
The final event of 2021 - The Christmas Twilight meet - will be held this Friday evening (December 17), before a three-week break over the Christmas and New Year period.
The first competition of 2022 will be the State Multi Event Championships and the Team Multis, held at the SA Athletics Stadium on January 8 and 9, 2022. Copyworld Toshiba Interclub 6 will be held on January 15, 2022.

The Christmas Twilight will be run as a Community Athletics meet, which provides people the opportunity to compete in a non-points scoring event.
It's a perfect opportunity to come and try the sport for the first time and compete in an Athletics SA competition for the first time, while it also provides experienced athletes the chance to compete in a more relaxed and fun environment.

The Christmas Twilight will include non-traditional track events such as 300m, 150m and Mile distances, as well as Pole Vault, Long Jump, Discus and Hammer Throw.
The event will also include a 3000m Feature A & B Race to provide people the opportunity to come and run a PB on the SA Athletics Stadium track.

Perfect weather greeted the more than 370 registered athletes on Saturday, and there were several impressive results from the final Interclub event of 2021.
After running the fastest 200m in the country (of 2021) at Interclub 4 last month, Athletics SA Emerging Athlete Program (ASA EAP) member Aidan Murphy ran a PB 46.31 400m race on Saturday.
The Saints Athletics Club teenager took out the Men's 400m ahead of Harrison Hunt (47.73) of Western's and Saints teammate Hayden Crowe (48.18), who each ran a National qualifying time.

Murphy also crossed the line first in a quick Men's 100m Heat, running a PB 10.64, and finishing ahead of Saints' Josh Love (10.89), Flinders' Cailen Hejka (10.94) and 2021 Open Men's Pole Vault national champion Jack Downey (11.04) of Western Athletics Club.

In Heat 1 of the Men's 1500m race, Flinders runner Dylan Bosch ran from the front and wore down the rest of the pack to claim the win in 3:52.10, ahead of Hills Districts' Max Spurling (3:54.78) and Flinders teammates Cam Clohesy (3:55.49) and Robert Killmier (3:55.99).
In an exciting first Heat in the Women's 1500m event, 16-year-old Jessica McManus of Port Adelaide sprinted past four competitors in the last 150m to take the win in 4:42.16, ahead of Western's Victoria Cholsh (4:42.64) and 13-year-old Tessa Ebert (4:43.65) of Port Adelaide.

Saints sprinter Jordi McMillan won a very competitive Heat 1 Women's 100m race on Saturday, running a season's best 12.11, and crossing the line ahead of Victorian athlete Grace Kelly (12.38), Pembroke's Margaret Gayen (12.43) and Port Adelaide's Amelie Burge (12.59).
Multi-eventer Margaret Gayen claimed wins in the 100m Hurdles (14.34) and Open Women's Long Jump (5.89m), edging out her younger sister Christine Gayen in both events.
Western's teenager Alex Dunn continued his impressive start to the season, running an U16 State Record in the Men's 100m Hurdles race, while Dean Pastrello had the dream return to 110m Hurdles, running a National qualifier 15.27.
Hills Districts' Jack Netting set an Open Men's T35 100m National Record with a time of 13.93, while Adelaide Harriers athlete Keira Post set an U15 T37 100m National Record, running 14.85.

There was also much excitement in the Pole Vault competition, as Courtney Smallacombe (4.20m), Madeline Lawson (3.90m) and 16-year-old Tryphena Hewett (3.60m) each jumped National qualifyers, while Oliver Herringer jumped a PB 4.50m to claim the Men's compeition ahead of Onesimus Hewett (4.35m).
In his first event of the season, Coastal DIstrict's Tristan Camilleri looked strong in the Men's 3000m Walk, finishing in 12:09.78, ahead of SA Masters athlete Kim Mottrom, 12:42.78, while Olivia Sandery (Pembroke) won the Women's event in 12:55.13.
Both Sharni Wood and Georgie Fielder ran National qualifyers in their 90m Hurdles race, managing 13/70 and 14.19 respectively.
In the Discus circle, EAP thrower Marley Raitiwasa (Tea Tree Gully) threw a near PB 50.84m attempt, winning the U18 competition ahead of Northern Districts' Taylor Larsson (42.79m) - both throwing National qualifyers.

EAP athlete, Saints' Darcy Miller took out the Men's U18 Discus competition with a 59.00m attempt, comfortably edging out Western's William Evans (47.33m) and Lachlan Schoepf (40.97m).
L. Schoepf had a dominant showing in the Hammer Throw cage, throwing a near PB 51.38m attempt to claim the U18 competition.
Celebrating Hugo's World Record
The Western Athletics Club, as well as the SA Athletics community celebrated Hugo Taheny's Men's T21 Discus World Record on Saturday, by organising a banner for the Lions thrower to run through.
A crowd gathered near the 100m finish line following his Discus event on Saturday afternoon to watch Taheny sprint through the banner, which read "Hugo Rockstar - World Champion".
Hugo, last month threw a 31.33 Discus attempt to break the Men's T21 World Record.
Officials Recognised
After recently receiving Life Membership of Athletics SA, Steve Tully on Saturday was recognised as November's Official of the Month.
