Copyworld Toshiba Interclub 1 - Report, Results and Photos

Athletics SA's Copyworld Toshiba Interclub Season got underway on Saturday at the Bridgestone Athletics Centre in Salisbury. 

Interclub is made up of 12 points scoring rounds where athletes compete in their chosen Track & Field disciplines, while earning Copyworld Toshiba Premiership points for their club.

Athletics SA's 2022-23 Summer Season commenced in October with the Season Launch, Northern Games, State 10,000m Championships and the VIVA SA All Schools Games, but Saturday's Interclub 1 was the season opener for many athletes. 

Competition will remain in Salisbury until the completion of the SA Athletics Stadium track and facility upgrade.

Despite being in the early stages of the season, Northern Districts thrower Noah Schoepf showed his dominance by throwing 51.34m in the Men's U16 Hammer Throw.

N. Schoepf - who is currently ranked third on Australia's 2022 Men's U16 Hammer Throw list - threw almost 20m past the 2022-23 Australian Championship qualifier. His 2022 PB with the 4kg Hammer is 56.37m.

Port Adelaide's Caelan Hewlett also threw a Men's U16 Hammer Throw National qualifier with 35.44m, as did Inara Castle (29.27m) in the Women's U14 Hammer, Madeline Bennett (46.10m) in the Women's U18 Hammer, and Caitlin Fraser (34.82m) and Alicia Gower (32.49m) in the Women's U16 Hammer.

Alex Dunn of the Western Athletics Club was another athlete to smash the National qualifier, running 14.46 in the Men's U18 110m Hurdles. 

Dunn wasn't alone in breaking the 16.74 qualifying time, with Nicholas Schroder (15.19), Konrad Buckley (15.74) and Logoh Tligi (16.55) also booking their place on the SA team in the opening meet.

Tligi also threw a National qualifier in the Men's U18 Hammer Throw with 51.72m, as did Lachlan Schoepf (52.21m) and Felix Bowden (49.70m), and Lauren Smith (41.70m) in the Women's U20 Hammer.

Several other athletes set good times in Hurdles events, with multi eventer Ken Ferrante Tanikawa (12.94), Joshua White (14.31), River Dowling (14.39) and Hamish Green (15.05) all breaking the National qualifier in the Men's U14 90m Hurdles, Ayden Colbourne (14.02), Charlie Snook (15.02) and Ricky Carter (15.30) qualified for the Men's U16 100m Hurdles and Fraser Western (16.43) qualified for the Men's U20 110m Hurdles.

It was a similar story in the Women's Hurdles with Leila Croker (14.36), Tahlia Lienert (15.28) and Charlotte McAuliffe (15.53) running qualifiers in the U18 100m Hurdles, Georgie Fielder (13.63) and Ashley James (13.97) in the U16 90m Hurdles, and Mia Ehrlich (13.80) in the U14 80m Hurdles.

Over the 100m distance, Jordi McMillan took out the Open Women's race in 12.20, ahead of Kayla Lemm (12.34) to both set National qualifying times, while Jacob Aston won the Open Men's 100m with 10.89, ahead of Duncan Cameron (11.05).

Four U14 Boys ran 100m qualifying times, including River Dowling (12.34), Ferrante Tanikawa (12.55), Patrick Ludunge (12.63) and Jayden Cooray (12.69), as did Kelechi Ekwomadu (11.44) and Colbourne (11.65) in the Men's U16 100m, and Luca Schmitt (11.12) and Gman Paye (11.18) in the Men's U18 100m. 

Saints duo Lillia Giannakis and Mali Walters ran Women's U14 qualifiers with 13.20 and 13.21 respectively, while Neveah Williams ran a Women's U14 400m qualifier (1:01.42), as did Paye in the Men's U18 400m (49.37), and Jeff Rezenbilds (52.36) and Colbourne (53.10) in the Men's U16 400m.

To wrap up the Track, Pembroke's Isla Fahey ran a Women's U14 1500m qualifier with 4:50.48 and a Women's U16 2000m Steeplechase qualifier 7:24.53 and Louis Pietsch ran a Men's U14 1500m qualifier with 4:32.06. Sebastian Richards (14:17.82) and Cooper Rech (16:15.21) both smashed the Men's U16 3000m Walk qualifier of 16:30.

In the Field, Australian World Athletics U20 Championships representative Marley Raikiwasa threw 50.16m in the Women's U18 Discus, while at the Triple Jump Lily Smart (11.33m) jumped a Women's U16 qualifier, Spencer de Lacy (11.63m) a Men's U14 qualifier, and Kelechi Ekwomadu (12.54m) a Men's U16 qualifier. 

There were plenty of qualifiers over at the Pole Vault with Ferrante Tanikawa (2.90m, Men's U14) Lawson Jones (3.35m, Men's U16), Bradley Fakes (2.60m, Men's U16), William Mattinson (3.50m, Men's U18), Tryphena Hewett (3.65m, Women's U18) and Tatum Giles (2.70m, Women's U18) all qualifying.

Keira Post T37 ran 15.21 in the Women's 100m Para, Sam Paech F37 threw 32.34m in the Men's Para Discus, and in the Men's Para 100m Frame Runner Thomas Mattinson ran 27.22.
