Eligibility and Qualification

Eligibility and qualification for this National Championships is achieved through competing in Athletics SA Interclub and state championship competitions. This includes the 2021 State All Schools Championships.

To qualify for an event, you must have achieved the national qualifying standard for this year which can be found below. If you achieved a top 3 placing at one of our state championships, you will also be elligible in that event.

**Note: To be eligible for the State Team, athletes must be an Introductory, Traditional, or Platinum member of Athletics SA.

Age Categories

The age categories for the 2022 Australian Athletics Championships are:

Under 14 - athletes must not have their fourteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2022 (i.e. must be born in 2009 or 2010).
Under 15 - athletes must not have their fifteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2022 (i.e. must be born in 2008 or later).
Under 16 - athletes must not have their sixteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2022 (i.e. must be born in 2007 or later).
Under 17 - athletes must not have their seventeenth birthday on or before 31st December 2022 (i.e. must be born in 2006 or later).
Under 18 - athletes must not have their eighteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2022 (i.e. must be born in 2005 or later).
Under 20 - athletes must not have their twentieth birthday on or before 31st December 2022 (i.e. must be born in 2003 or later).
Open - athletes must be turning 12 on or before 31st December 2022 (i.e. must be born in 2010 or earlier).
Para - age groups will be Under 15, Under 17, Under 20 and Open.
