Athletics SA has reviewed and updated its Covid-19 Vaccination Policy

In line with the further relaxing of Covid-19 restrictions announced by the State Government in recent weeks,  Athletics SA has again reviewed its Covid-19 Vaccination Policy and is updating its Conditions of Entry for events – effective Tuesday, May 10 2022.

While Athletics SA strongly encourages people to be fully vaccinated, attendees at Athletics SA events will no longer be required to show a proof of Covid-19 vaccination certificate on entry.

This change has been made on the basis of South Australia’s high vaccination rate, continued easing of restrictions, the removal of density restrictions and the fact that Athletics SA's Winter series of events occur exclusively outdoors, over a very large area.

Consistent with the announced changes, attendees at Athletics SA events will no longer be required to wear masks when entering or moving around venues, such as indoors at the SA Athletics Stadium, but management continue to encourage patrons to keep doing so if they choose.

Patrons will not be required to QR check in at Athletics SA events.

It will still be a requirement that all Athletics SA staff and officials are double Covid-19 vaccinated.

Athletics SA remains committed to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all.

Athletics SA's Covid-19 Vaccination Policy

Published: November 30, 2021

Updated: May 10, 2022

The Board of the Athletic Association of South Australia requires that staff and officials be double Covid-19 vaccinated in order to attend the workplace and venues during an Athletics SA competition or program, including the Adelaide Invitational.

While Athletics SA strongly encourages people to be fully vaccinated, athletes, volunteers and spectators at Athletics SA events will no longer be required to show a proof of Covid-19 vaccination certificate on entry.

The requirement for staff and officials applies to those who enter the venue for the competition – staff and officials, including coaches that are engaged or appointed by Athletics SA. This will also apply for Athletics SA events and functions, day-to-day operations, programs and coaching clinics.

We take our responsibilities under the Work Health Safety Act seriously. We have a clear obligation and duty of care to those who work with us.

SA Health approved medical exemptions will be accepted, if accompanied by a recent negative test result no older than 72 hours.

This is a topic that brings various opinions, which we respect. After regular deliberation, consultation and considering stakeholder survey feedback since the policy was introduced in November 2021, the Board considers this update to be in line with a recent relaxation of restrictions by the SA Government.

Please note that this requirement is only relevant to Athletics SA-organised competitions and activities (including the Adelaide Invitational) – and is not a requirement to enter the SA Athletics Stadium for training, which is under the control of the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing. Likewise, the requirement for staff, officials and coaches does not extend to attendance or training at Club or squad venues – that is a matter for each Club and squad.

Athletics SA regularly reviews this policy and reserves the right to alter it as more information and/or directions come to hand.
