Huge months ahead for SA Cross Country

The South Australian running community turns its attention to Cross Country for the next 10 weeks, in preparation for three major events on both the local and National athletics calendars.

Most notedly, South Australia is set to host the 2022 Australian Cross Country Championships on Saturday, August 27, at the Oakbank Racecourse in the Adelaide Hills, which is a huge boost for local runners who will get the chance to partake in the National Championships on a home course for the first time in 10 years.

Event Timetable and Age Groups

This year's Australian Cross Country Championships will prove important for athletes with the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships to be held in Bathurst, NSW in February next year.

Important dates on the local Cross Country calendar:

In the lead up to the 2022 Australian Cross Country Championships, Athletics SA will host a Cross Country event (Cross Country 2) on Saturday, July 16 and the 2022 State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, July 30.

Both Cross Country 2 and the 2022 State Cross Country Championships are crucial events for local athletes who wish to represent SA at the National Championships in August.

• Athletics SA will select a team of athletes in the U14, U15, U16, U17, U18, U20 and Open Age Groups (including Para athletes) to participate in the 2022 Australian Cross Country Championships. 
  • Nominate for the Athletics SA State Team here - Nominations Close Friday, August 5, 2022.
  • Those who wish to represent Athletics SA at the 2022 Australian Cross Country Championships must participate in the 2022 State Cross Country Championships at Victoria Park on Saturday, July 30. This will be the main selection trial for Athletics SA's team, while past performances will also be taken into account.
  • Those who wish to represent Athletics SA at the 2022 Australian Cross Country Championships must have taken out a 2021/22 Athletics SA Membership.

• School Sport SA will also select a team of athletes in the U10, U11, U12, U14, U16 and U18 Age Groups (including Para athletes)
  • Athletics SA's Cross Country 2 event at Botanic Park on Saturday, July 16 will be used as the main selection trial for the School Sport SA team, along with the 2022 School Sport SA Cross Country Championships (which were held in Oakbank on June 9). Those who finished in the top 20 within their age group were invited to the selection race on July 16.
