The Summer Season consists of a range of Track and Field events that are suitable for all ages and abilities.
This year's Summer Season will commence on Saturday, October 15 at the Bridgestone Athletics Centre in Salisbury. The initial part of the season will take place at Bridgestone while the SA Athletics Stadium in Mile End is closed for upgrades to the track, infield and changeroom facilities.
The Season will run from October 2022 to March 2023 and include the following:
Copyworld Toshiba Interclub Competition: Like most summer or team sports, Interclub is the competition where athletes compete each week. Twelve Interclubs are hosted throughout the summer season, on either a Friday night or Saturday afternoon. Each athlete represents their club and competes for premiership points. Copyworld Toshiba Interclub Premierships are awarded for each age category.
As there is so many disciplines within the overall sport of athletics, Copyworld Toshiba Interclubs are split into two programs - Program A and rogram B. Program A will take place at Interclubs 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11, while Program B will be offered at Interclubs 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. Programs A and B are currently being finalised.
Events offered at Interclubs include:
Walk: 1500m and 3000m
Run: 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, Steeplechase and 3000m
Throw: Discus, Shot Put, Hammer Throw and Javelin
Jump: High Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault and Long Jump
Para: Throws/Seated Throws, Jumps, Running/Frame Running/Wheel Chair, Walks - Please enquire through events@athleticssa.com.au
Athletics SA provides competition to U14, U16, U18, U20, Open and Para athletes.
Community Athletics: Athletics SA provides opporunities for people to come out and have a go at the sport through three Community Athletics Days - The Season Launch, The Northern Games and the Christmas Twilight. Events are available for a low cost - no membership or club uniforms are required. This is a more relaxed competition day, with no premiership points. Athletics SA members are also welcome to come out an compete in a fun and casual environment.
State Championships: Athletics SA hosts a wide range of State Championship events through both the Summer and Winter Seasons, where Medals and State Titles are up for grabs.
The 2022 State Track and Field Championships will be held on March 3-5 at the SA Athletics Stadium, where State Titles will be up for grabs in the above disciplines, across all age groups and genders. As per the 2022 National Championships, the Top 3 place winners in their event/age group were eligible to compete at the Australian Track and Field Championships.
State Championships will also be held to decide State Relay Titles, State Combined Event Titles, State 3000m, State 5000m and State 10,000m.
Adelaide Invitational: The Adelaide Invitational is SA's High Performance meet. It was re-introduced to the Athletics SA calendar in February 2022 and attracted athletes such as Peter Bol, Rohan Browning, Riley Day, Michael Roeger and Bendere Oboya to Adelaide. Local athletes such as Isobel Batt-Doyle, Matthew Clarke, Aidan Murphy, Courtney Smallacombe and Darcy Miller also competed.
