An historic meeting last night between members of Salisbury Amateur Athletic Club and Salisbury East Little Athletics Centre resulted in a unanimously vote to establish a working party to form a new joint entity, create a new name, new logo, and new uniform with a single fee structure for the coming season. The agreement comes off the back of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Club and the Centre two weeks ago. The move is also an important first step in the vision for a full merger within the next 12-18 months.
The meeting, was hosted by the Presidents of the Salisbury Amateur Athletic Club and Salisbury East Little Athletics Centre, along with the Athletics SA CEO, Little Athletics SA CEO, and Joint Pathways Coordinator. The vote and associated meeting is the culmination of a number of meetings in recent weeks between Athletics SA, Little Athletics SA and the two clubs.
"This is a fantastic step forward and I congratulate the members and committee of both the Salisbury Amateur Athletic Club and Salisbury East Little Athletics Centre for quickly moving to this point", said Athletics SA CEO Adam Bishop.
"Athletics SA and Little Athletics SA are fully committed to pursuing the One Club Model and will commit resources to working with clubs and centres who are ready to actively pursue mergers or much closer working relationships. There is much work to be done at club/centre and state level, but this is an exciting time for athletics in South Australia".
