Congratulations to distance coach and Athletics SA staff member, Adam Didyk, and race waking coach, Claire Tallent on their appointments as Australian athletics team coaches for the Rio Olympic Games! Read on below for the Athletics Australia news article.
High Performance Director, Simon Nathan, has today confirmed the Athletics Australia Team Coaches for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
To play a vital role in the preparation of Australia’s athletics section for the grandest competition stage of all, the nine appointed coaches boast a breadth of knowledge and experience that will ensure our team’s best possible chance for success.
Working with athletes and personal coaches for track and road events will be Adam Didyk, Adam Larcom, Ash Mahoney, Philo Saunders and Claire Tallent, while our charges in the field and combined events will collaborate with Sandro Bisetto, Gary Bourne, Scott Martin and Grant Ward.
“Congratulations to the nine coaches appointed. The role of Team Coach is a great honour and this invitation is a reflection of the huge personal investment these individuals have made to our sport,” Simon Nathan, Athletics Section Team Leader, said.
“The role requires our team coaches to remain in constant contact with the selected and shadow squad athletes and their personal coaches in their allocated events, updating the Head Coach on their planning and progress. They will attend to the staging camp in Florida and, subject to final athlete selections, be with the Australian team in Rio.”
“As we are all aware, the logistics of the Olympic Games can be challenging so appointed team coaches are not guaranteed a specific level of accreditation in Rio. Decisions in this area will be made with the best interests of the whole team in mind and we will provide further updates on this once we have a clearer picture of final team to compete. We will also be able to accredit personal coaches to complement the Team Coach.”
The athletics section for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will grow in the coming fortnight with selections for the men’s and women’s marathon before the final team is decided after the close of the IAAF Qualification Period in July.
