More than 50 current and former Australian representatives will attend tomorrow night’s Adelaide Track Classic to be presented with their Australian Flame athletics bib numbers. In a similar concept to the Australian cricket cap numbering system, each Australian representative since Edwin Flack in 1896 will receive their bib numbers at a special presentation before being introduced to the crowd during the main program.
Attendees being presented with their bib numbers include the likes of former South Australian Governor and Olympic gold medallist Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, World pole vault Champion, Dmitri Markov, and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Tania Van Heer-Murphy.
‘This is an amazing opportunity to see some of the current and past greats of South Australian, Australian and world athletics’, said Athletics SA CEO, Adam Bishop.
‘To have so many living legends of our sport in the one place at the one time is going to make for a pretty special celebration.’
The 2016 Adelaide Track Classic kicks off from 5pm tomorrow, Saturday 20th February. Gates open at 4pm. Tickets can be purchased online via www.athleticssa.com.au/TrackClassic until tonight or at the gate on the day.
